Temporary HOV Lane Opened to Traffic on Saturday, March 8

SOLANO COUNTY  – The future westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) express lane running between Vacaville and Fairfield is now temporarily open to High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) traffic as of Saturday, March 8.

Roadway construction on the new express lane is ongoing and electronics and hardware for collecting tolls are still being installed. In the meantime, this lane is available to vehicles with two or more people on board weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. During non-weekday commute hours, the lane is open to all motorists.

The new temporary HOV lane runs on westbound I-80 from the Interstate 505 interchange in Vacaville to Airbase Parkway in Fairfield.

As work is still in progress, we ask motorists to please be mindful of their speed for the safety of our workers. Caltrans and its transportation partners expect to formally launch the completed express lane by late 2025. At that time, motorists using the new traffic lane will be charged as appropriate.

Temporary HOV Lane Scheduled to Open on or around Monday, March 10

SOLANO COUNTY  – Caltrans and partner agencies are tentatively scheduled to open the new westbound Interstate 80 (I-80) express lane running between Vacaville and Fairfield as a temporary HOV lane on or around Monday, March 10.

Roadway construction on what will become a new express lane is ongoing and electronics and hardware for collecting tolls are still being installed. In the meantime, this lane will be available to vehicles with two or more people on board on weekdays from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Single Lane Closures on Highway 12 through Suisun & Fairfield in Early March

SOLANO COUNTY/NORTH VALLEJO – Caltrans will be closing outside and right-hand turn lanes at several intersections along State Route 12 through Fairfield and Suisun City throughout the week of March 3.

These closures will affect SR-12 intersections at Beck Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave. in Fairfield, and Marina Blvd., Sunset Ave./Grizzly Island Rd., and Emperor Dr./Lawler Ranch Pkwy. in Suisun City. Each location’s lane closure will last a full workday.

This work is part of a larger project improving the safety of pedestrian crosswalks across Solano County. The lane closures are necessary to install the foundations for new overhead poles with luminaires.

State Route 84 “Real McCoy II Ferry” Out of Service Due to Mechanical Issue

SOLANO COUNTY/NORTH VALLEJO – The State Route 84 (SR-84) “Real McCoy II Ferry” is currently out of service due to mechanical issues with the vessel’s engine.

The ferry has been inspected and experts determined the vessel’s thruster box needs to be replaced. Caltrans estimates the Real McCoy will be out of service through Friday, Feb. 28.

Caltrans regrets any inconvenience this may cause for residents and motorists who use the ferry to access Ryer Island and the Sacramento Delta.

Detour for SR-84 “Real McCoy II Ferry Closure
Residents and motorists can continue using Miner’s Slough Bridge to access or exit Ryer Island. The J-Mack ferry is currently on hold due to high water flow, but is expected to return to service Tuesday, Feb. 25. Caltrans thanks motorists, businesses, and residents for their patience as we work to get the ferries back into service.

SOLANO COUNTY– A mudslide caused by this week’s winter storm has necessitated the closure of the Solano Bikeway above eastbound Interstate 80 outside Vallejo.

The mudslide occurred across from the interstate from the Hunter Hill rest area, making the route impassable until fixes can be made. The length of bikeway between Vallejo and Cordelia is now closed until further notice.

SOLANO COUNTY– Caltrans and partner agencies are constructing a soundwall along Hickory Lane near the Davis Street/Interstate 80 onramp and offramp in Vacaville.

Heavy machinery used to complete this work will require occasional daytime closures of the onramp and offramp beginning the week of Monday, Feb. 17 – not, Feb. 10, as previously stated. Local residents should also expect noise and dust during construction.

Work on this project has already begun and is expected to be complete by Spring 2025. Most work is expected to take place during normal daytime working hours. Occasional overnight closures of the Davis Street onramp and offramp may also be required. Crews have installed temporary concrete moveable barriers along Hickory Lane.

SOLANO COUNTY/NORTH VALLEJO– The Hunter Hill rest area along westbound Interstate 80 reopened to the public today, following several weeks of work to restore power and water pressure.

Several utility boxes and many other infrastructure components were replaced in order to provide full services to Bay Area motorists.

State Route 220 J-Mack Ferry Returns to Service Following Inspection and Repairs

SOLANO COUNTY/DELTA REGION – Caltrans has resumed service on the State Route 220 J-Mack ferry with service to Ryer Island in the Sacramento River Delta.

The J-Mack recently completed its mandated inspection with the U.S. Coast Guard and, following minor repairs and installation of a new cable, is now available to motorists.
