Rio Vista Bridge Scheduled for Multiple 55-Hour Closures
Closures Scheduled for 3 Weekends this Fall; Extensive Detour in Place for State Route 12 Motorists

Rio Vista  – Caltrans is advising motorists of a scheduled closure of the Rio Vista Bridge (Helen Madere Memorial Bridge) on State Route 12 (SR-12) just east of the City of Rio Vista due to a paving project.

The $11.24 million project through the Bridge Rehabilitation and Replacement Program will require multiple 55-hour weekend closures for the work to be completed.

The project will make necessary bridge repairs and updates by rehabilitating the roadway surface, placing polyester concrete overlay on the bridge deck, replacing bridge rails, installing bridge approach slabs, and constructing Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant switchback ramps.

These upgrades will improve motorist and non-vehicular bridge users’ safety, restore bridge deck integrity, comply with ADA accessibility requirements and expand access for pedestrians and non-motor vehicles, and improve the overall ride quality.

The 55-hour weekend bridge closure schedule will lessen total project workdays and help avoid the wait times during peak commute hours during the work week.

Motorists could encounter additional travel times of up to two hours using the described detours (see maps provided) from Rio Vista to Sacramento County on SR-12 across the Sacramento River. Please allow for extra travel time to reach your destination, especially for scheduled appointments and work schedules.
All work on road construction projects will be suspended on weekends and holidays. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment or material availability, or other unexpected events.

CLOSURE DATES:

• 9 pm Friday, Oct. 18 to 5 am Monday, Oct. 21
• 9 pm Friday, Nov. 1 to 5 am Monday, Nov. 4
• 9 pm Friday, Nov. 15 to 5 am Monday, Nov. 18 (Tentative)

Vallejo Passenger Rail Study 2024

The Vallejo Passenger Rail Study explores the feasibility of passenger rail service within Vallejo as well as service that would connect to nearby communities such as Napa, Fairfield/Suisun City, and Novato. The study found that a substantial market exists for fast, effective, and attractive transit services to and from Vallejo, with demand both within the city (and American Canyon) and to regional destinations, accessed by connections to the state rail network. A passenger rail service can provide a superior travel product, with fast speeds and reliable operation.
