The Solano Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Program offers a wide range of free programs, activities, and events for schools to increase students walking and biking to school and student travel safety. In 2008, the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) Board adopted Solano County’s first Safe Routes to School Plan and authorized staff to create a Safe Routes to School Program. This plan provided the direction for the SR2S Program through 2012 and led to the adoption of a second plan in 2013, which continues to guide the program today. SR2S Staff are currently updating the third iteration of the Safe Routes to School Plan, which will be presented to the STA Board for adoption in Fall 2024.

The objective of the Solano SR2S Program is to increase the number of students walking and biking to school by focusing on safety, while making the journey a fun and healthy one. Solano SR2S offers activities and programs to all Solano County schools to educate students about walking and biking safety and health awareness. The program also identifies safety improvements within our communities to enhance active student travel. The Solano SR2S Program is available to all Solano County schools of all grade levels and currently engages 80 schools countywide.

In addition to providing school events, the SR2S Program has a micro grant program to fund small scale projects at schools, engages school and city stakeholders at Community Task Force meetings across Solano County, and works with city engineering staff that deliver infrastructure projects addressing safety for students travelling to and from school.
