11 Solano County Projects Awarded $8.8M in Safety Funds

Also on December 12, the California Department of Transportation released their list of approved projects for the Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP). Six Solano County Cities in coordination with the STA were awarded a total of $8.8 million to fund eleven traffic safety projects in over a hundred locations throughout Solano County. The grant will be used to construct improvements to pedestrian crossings, upgrade guardrails, and enhance traffic crossings for motorists.

Ridership Grows on SF Bay Ferry between San Francisco and Vallejo

The San Francisco Bay Ferry reports ridership between San Francisco and Vallejo continues to grow.  Over 98,205 riders rode the ferry from Vallejo to San Francisco during the month of October, with an increase of 1.33% over last month, over 10% increase the same month last year, and over 5% for the fiscal year. The Vallejo ferry is currently at 94% capacity and has the highest fare box (65%) retrieval compared to other terminals operated by the San Francisco Bay Ferry.

STA Annual Audit for Fiscal Year (FY) 2017-18

The auditing firm of Vavrinek, Trine, Day & Co., LLP has completed their independent audit of the STA’s Accounting and Financials for FY 2017-18. Their audit evaluation resulted in a clean audit for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2018. With the unqualified opinion of the FY 2017-18 annual audit and the third year issuance of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, STA is celebrating thirteen years of consecutive “clean” audits thanks to Susan Furtado, STA’s Accounting/Administrative Services Manager.

Draft 2019 Legislative Priorities and Platform Available for Comment

The STA Board has released the draft 2019 Legislative Platform for review. With the preservation of the Road Repair and Accountability Act of 2017 (SB1), STA’s main priorities in 2019 will be to move ahead with projects including the I-80/I-680/SR12 Interchange, the I-80 Express Lanes, the I-80 Westbound Truck Scales, and the SR37 & Fairgrounds Interchange. Written comments may be submitted prior to the Board meeting on February 13, 2019.

Solano Mobility Website Update

STA is excited to launch the updated Solano Mobility website in January. This newly designed website features a clean and simplified look along with user-friendly navigation bars. The Solano Mobility website aims to improve the overall user experience. This desktop and mobile-friendly website will allow users to easily access information about Solano Mobility’s programs for older adults, people with disabilities, commuters, employers and students.

Active Transportation Plan Continues

STA recently launched a year and a half-long effort to create a new countywide plan for walking and biking throughout Solano County. To ensure that the updated Countywide Active Transportation Plan reflects the needs of Solano County residents in all seven cities, your input is needed! Check out www.activesolano2020.org to provide input on needed improvements to biking and walking by using the interactive Wikimap or attend one of the remaining community events to provide feedback in person!

Intercity Taxi (ITX) Card Program Expansion

STA and Solano County Transit (SolTrans) launched the new Intercity Taxi (ITX) Card Program replacing paper taxi scrip. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) eligible residents located in Benicia and Vallejo are being provided ITX cards that can be used for intercity paratransit trips with participating taxi and other service providers for both ambulatory and now, non-ambulatory passengers. Eligible residents located in Dixon and Rio Vista will be able to use the ITX card in January 2019. Vacaville Jepson Parkway Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On November 2, 2018, the City of Vacaville and the Solano Transportation Authority (STA) celebrated the completion of the newest section of Vacaville’s portion of the Jepson Parkway Project. Many Solano County dignitaries gathered for a ribbon cutting ceremony for another important segment of the 12-mile reliever route, a Complete Streets Project, aimed to improve intercounty mobility for Solano County residents. Upon completion, the entire Jepson Parkway Project consists of the construction of a four-lane roadway from the State Route 12 and Walters Road intersection in Suisun City to the Interstate 80/Leisure Town Road interchange in Vacaville. The new section of roadway features a roundabout intersection at Vanden and Leisure Town Road, and will join the new section of Foxboro Parkway currently under construction, and safety improvements such as new medians, traffic signals, shoulders and a separate sidewalk for pedestrians. Funding will be allocated by STA to the City of Vacaville to construct the final segment of the Vacaville section from Elmira Road to Orange Drive beginning in 2022.

STA Welcomes New Program Coordinator

Katelyn Costa joined the STA on November 16th as a Program Coordinator specializing in the Employer Program. A recent UC Davis graduate and now Vacaville resident, she is passionate about encouraging alternative modes of transportation in the name of health and safety. Katelyn reports to Lloyd Nadal, Program Services Division Manager at STA.
