SMART and SolanoExpress Station Feasibility Study 2021
The 2018 California State Rail Plan, the state’s strategic plan for creating a coordinated, statewide rail network, identified a “Solano County Hub” to link Capitol Corridor, future Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) trains, and regional buses. This report analyzed potential rail station locations along the Union Pacific Railroad/SMART corridor within Solano County to determine a recommended location for the proposed Solano County Hub. The study recommends the current location of the Suisun-Fairfield Capitol Corridor Station as the SMART-Capitol Corridor station site. In addition, the report provides a range of station options for another station site in the Cordelia area in the City of Fairfield that could be considered in the update of the City’s General Plan.

Solano Safe Routes to School Micro-Grant Cycle 2 Opening Soon
Based on the needs and feedback from cities and schools for small-scale project support, the Solano SR2S Program has received approval from the STA Board to pilot a SR2S Micro-Grant Program to begin in fiscal year 2019-2020. The funds awarded through this program will support small-scale projects or capital purchases that encourage bike and pedestrian usage and improve bike and pedestrian safety around Solano County schools. The SR2S Micro-Grant Pilot Program will be funded through Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds, air district grants and High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) fines.
This grant opportunity is open to all Solano County cities, schools, school districts, community organizations and youth groups. Projects could include (but are not limited to): purchasing and installing bike racks and safety-related signage; providing safety equipment (bike helmets, vests, reflectors); creating green bike lanes or making other infrastructure improvements at/around schools.

Bike Highway Study Website & Survey Launch
Caltrans Bay Area is evaluating the implementation of bike highways in the Bay Area and is looking for input from Bay Area bicyclists through their newly launched Bike Highway Study website. The Study website is a resource for collecting input, upcoming events, and bike highway-related websites and resources. Caltrans Bay Area (District 4) manages nearly 1,400 miles of State Highway corridors throughout the Bay Area. The purpose of this Study is to understand where Bike Highways may be installed alongside State Highway corridors.
The Caltrans Bay Area Bike Highway Study Survey seeks to gather feedback on your bicycling habits, which features will make bike highways safe and easy for you to use, and what makes you feel comfortable while bicycling.
What is a Bike Highway?
A bike highway is a high-quality, uninterrupted, long-distance bikeway created to reduce barriers to destinations that people want to travel to and from, especially places which may normally be difficult to bike to. These types of bikeways may consist of a mix of on-street facilities and fully-separated trails. Bike highways should be designed to accommodate people of all ages and abilities riding bikes, as well as people walking and rolling where appropriate and feasible. For this Study, Caltrans is evaluating bike highways parallel to State highway corridors.
The survey will be open through the end of February, and all questions are optional. To take the short survey, click here.
